Does anyone else think of people you meet in real life in terms of Pride and Prejudice characters? Like, “Oh, she’s a real Jane Bennet,” or, “Oh, he’s a total Wickham.”
And, of course, the world is always too full of Wickhams and Collinses—I still haven’t met anyone of whom I think, “Now he’s a Mr. Darcy.”
Hmmm. Might be the best critique of literary romance ever. Why, does one suppose, do we never get to say “Now he’s a real Mr. Darcy” when the world is so full of Wickhams and Collinses?
Hint: for the same reason one has never met anyone of whom one thinks, “Now she’s a real Jessica Rabbit.” ????
They’re only drawn that way.
