People say “phase” like impermanence means insignificance. Show me a permanent state of the self.
Good luck imagining you’re the same person you were a year ago. And no, that’s neither permission nor an excuse to be a fart in a whirlwind either.
Recovering from surgery is “just a phase” as is feeling jumpy about whatever it was that made you need surgery. But you gotta be pretty detached to say surgery and recovery are insignificant.
Same with kink, by the way. Or blogging. Sometimes there’s something you need to get out of your system. Sometimes you discover what you were really looking for. And sure, sometimes you just burn out.
Not every phase has to be significant – pretty much everyone’s done with Gangnam Style and planking and that’s ok. But new love and aching heartbreak are phases too, and significant as hell.
Give yourself a break. Give everyone else one too.
