I wish you didn’t live so far away ???? you seem like the perfect daddy for me. All my attempts at finding a decent partner, let alone a decent daddy, have been total failures.

The new Tumblr curse is that Tumblr staff is run by nasty incels who squeeze their thighs together anxiously at the thought of “female-presenting nipples” because “females” make it every so hard for men like them to Go Their Own Way.

But the old Tumblr curse – the most tragic one – is that when you meet someone on Tumblr the nicer they are the more miles, time zones, whole continents and oceans you live apart.

As for perfection, I’ll say something I have to say a lot because it’s hard for me to remember too: The only perfect person you know is the one you don’t know very well.

That’s important because when it comes to partners we don’t find the “perfect partner,” we discover them as they discover us.  We have to explore together.  Collaborate.  Dig through layers together like archaeologists or paleontologists.  And we have to realize that sometimes as the layers are revealed we discover hidden treasure… and other times we find we’re only peeling an onion, and under all the layers there’s nothing underneath.

Finding nothing isn’t necessarily failure, even though when it comes to romance or love we’re taught to believe that every discovery that doesn’t strike gold is time wasted.  But that’s a mistake.  Exploring together teaches us all what to look for next time.

It’s something we can’t explore alone!  That last part’s important.  We have to explore with others to find real treasure.  And to find real partners.
