Note it’s not about giving yourself permission to be neglectful, not to be an asshole either. And if you’ve been beaten down you might think all that adds up to being selfish. But no, it’s not about that either. It’s not permission to be a jerk – you don’t want that and you seriously don’t need it.
But if you give yourself permission to be, have, and do the things on that list? You’ll discover those things don’t make you selfish. They just give you more room to stand… more room to breathe… more room to thrive. And if you give yourself permission to stand, to breath, and to thrive you’ll discover not selfishness but the capacity for incredible generosity.
And no, I’m not holding forth from some ivory tower of brilliance and wisdom. I need to give myself permission too, don’t I?
