Are you a serial killer?

Funny you should ask since the topic came up when I was in line at the nearby coffee shop.  Turns out there’s a bar in a town an hour or so north of me where allegedly nearly all the serial killer from the 1960s-1980s wound up stopping for a drink.

I’ve lived here since before most Tumblr users were born, but I was the only in the place who didn’t know what where exactly it was or what it’s called.

So the evidence suggests that no, I’m not.  Not at all.

Also eww, it’s a touchy subject here in the Pacific Northwest, and one that kind of radicalized me about sex work.  Most of the worst serial killers have lived and preyed on people here.  Street/subsistence sex workers are extraordinarily vulnerable to serial killers, a fact that they tend to exploit ruthlessly.  They’re largely disregarded and dehumanized by the general population, they have to work in the sometimes-literal shadows, and if they go to the police they’re as likely to be shaken down, roughed up, or coerced as they are to be taken seriously, taken seriously, and helped.

Doesn’t matter what anyone thinks about sex work as a profession, I’d much rather their work was decriminalized or outright legalized so they could work with law enforcement on issues of stalkers, killers, and traffickers instead of being, you know, more at their mercy.

Sorry about the digression.  But no.  I’d be a terrible serial killer.

Interesting question.  Thanks for asking.  And thanks for giving me a chance to put in a plug for dignity and safety for sex workers.  (I wouldn’t have answered the question otherwise.)
