‘Those Chromosomes And All That’: AL GOP Fumbles Medical Basics Before Abortion Ban
In case anyone believes it’s really about “protecting unborn life” and not about forced pregnancy and just generally treating women like shit?
And what of eggs fertilized in labs? If abortions are outlawed in cases of “known” pregnancy — as early as a fertilized egg, according to Chambliss — should fertilized eggs that have yet to be transferred to a woman’s uterus have legal protections?
The Republican state senator revealed his real argument: The bill does not address all potential children, but rather women’s bodies.
“The egg in the lab doesn’t apply,” Chambliss said. “It’s not in a woman. She’s not pregnant.”
Emphasis mine. “It’s not in a woman” then it doesn’t “apply.”
Do I like abortion? Not particularly – I think it’s an unfortunate combination of irresponsible men and contraception that’s not safe, effective, affordable, easy to use, and available. If men are responsible and not ignorant, irresponsible, women-hating, low-impulse-control assholes like this Alabama Republican toolbag then abortions are almost entirely avoidable… and that’s why I had not one but two vasectomies, with two very planned, very much wanted children in between.
Unplanned fertility is for weak, skulking, irresponsible, uneducated, selfish, cowardly, selfish misogynistic men. And Republicans, but why repeat myself?
